چکیده

In a large region of the supersymmetry parameter space, the annihilation cross section for neutralino dark matter is strongly dependent on the relative velocity of the incoming particles. We explore the consequences of this velocity dependence in the context of indirect detection of dark matter from the galactic center. We find that the increase in the annihilation cross section at high velocities leads to a flattening of the halo density profile near the galactic center and an enhancement of the annihilation signal. email: [email protected] email: [email protected] Work supported by the US Department of Energy, contract DE–AC02–76SF00515. arXiv:0710.5517v1[astro-ph]

For Publisher’s use DARK MATTER SEARCHES

More than 90% of matter in the Universe could be composed of heavy particles, which were non-relativistic, or 'cold', when they froze-out from the primordial soup. I will review current searches for these hypothetical particles, both via interactions with nuclei in deep underground detectors, and via the observation of their annihilation products in the Sun, galactic halo and galactic center.

Non-Perturbative Effect on Dark Matter Annihilation and Gamma Ray Signature from Galactic Center

Detection of gamma rays from dark matter annihilation in the galactic center is one of the feasible techniques to search for dark matter. We evaluate the gamma ray flux in the case that the dark matter has an electroweak SU(2)L charge. Such dark matter is realized in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) when the lightest SUSY particle is the Higgsinoor Wino-like neutralino. When the...

Astrometric Monitoring of Stellar Orbits at the Galactic Center with a Next Generation Large Telescope

We show that with a Next Generation Large Telescope one can detect the accelerated motions of ∼ 100 stars orbiting the massive black hole at the Galactic center. The positions and velocities of these stars will be measured to astrometric and spectroscopic precision several times better than currently attainable enabling detailed measurements of the gravitational potential in the neighborhood of...

Detecting dark matter with imploding pulsars in the galactic center.

The paucity of old millisecond pulsars observed at the galactic center of the Milky Way could be the result of dark matter accumulating in and destroying neutron stars. In regions of high dark matter density, dark matter clumped in a pulsar can exceed the Schwarzschild limit and collapse into a natal black hole which destroys the pulsar. We examine what dark matter models are consistent with th...

WMAP Microwave Emission Interpreted as Dark Matter Annihilation in the Inner Galaxy

Excess microwave emission observed in the inner Galaxy (inner ∼ 1 kpc) is consistent with synchrotron emission from highly relativistic ee pairs produced by dark matter particle annihilation. More conventional sources for this emission, such as free-free (thermal bremsstrahlung), thermal dust, spinning dust, and the softer Galactic synchrotron traced by low-frequency surveys, have been ruled ou...
